The ability to vote, the opportunity to run for political office, or the chance to join a political party, are all individual rights that set Canada apart from many countries in the world. In fact, these rights empower each of us to make a difference where we live, work and learn. I first got involved with politics in the early 1990's. At the time, Canada's political situation needed changing. So, instead of just complaining about things, I acted. I bought a membership in a political party and eventually decided to run for office. I've been privileged to be elected and re-elected five times. |

 No matter your political persuasion, I urge you to get involved somewhere, somehow in the public decision making process at whatever level you feel most comfortable. Our democratic freedoms exist because generations of Canadians fought and died for them. They also remain with us because throughout our history, folks put them into practice, and changed the course of the country. The vitality of our democracy depends on numerous small acts by individuals like you expressing their thoughts and getting involved in the electoral process. You too can make the same impact!
